PROJECT HISTORY

PROJECT HISTORY

Foil bearings were developed at the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences for more than 10 years. On the basis of these experiences, the research project ‘Leader’ was carried out, which involved the creation of an active foil bearing. Below is information on the funding of this project:

This project has acronym: ACTIVERING. Project entitled “Active foil bearings with variable dynamic properties”, agreement no. LIDER/51/0200/L9/17/NCBR/2018, which is being implemented as part of the research and development programme called “LEADER”

The history of active foil bearing research at Active Bearing is a fascinating story of innovation and the pursuit of engineering excellence.

More than a decade ago, research on foil bearings began at the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gdańsk.

As part of the ACTIVEBEARING project, they were developed to create a technology that will revolutionize the industry by significantly improving operational safety and reliability of machines thanks to real-time control of rotor vibrations. As part of the research project called ACTIVERING, a team of 13 experts from various fields, including rotor dynamics, materials science and automation, worked for 3.5 years to develop this breakthrough technology. Their work not only contributed to extending the service life of bearings, but also initiated the development of a completely new type of bearings.

Ultimately, after years of analysis and experimental research, Active Bearing has created a product ready to be introduced to the market: an innovative active foil bearing, which, thanks to its unique dynamic properties, is unrivaled among solutions offered by other companies. This project, supported by the LEADER research and development program, proves that long-term commitment to research can lead to the creation of products that have the potential to change an industry for the better.
